Client: London Borough of Bexley

Principal Contractor: Riney

Location: Fraser Road, Erith

Engineer: Watermans

Services used:

Soil Nailing
Rock Scaling and Vegetation Removal
Rock Netting

Project Overview:

On Fraser Road in Erith, Vertical Technology was tasked with improving the stability of a 25m high steep slope of Thanet Sands above the road. This was achieved by installing over 780Nr 9.5m soil nails and associated MacMat R netting. This was phase 2 following from phase 1 also installed by VT 2021.

Execution:

With tight space at the top and a single lane closure at the base to contain the site compound, drill rigs mounted to roto telehandlers were used to install the soil nails. All access to the slope for the work force utilised rope access techniques. An area of waste ground below the largest section of slope required the removal of contaminated ground and the installation of engineered hard standing capable of supporting the 30m telehandlers.

Outcome:

Despite the site's complexities, the project was completed on time and within budget. Vertical Technology's use of advanced rope access techniques and roto telehandler mounted drill rigs not only ensured the safety of the workforce but also minimised disruption to the surrounding area.
